# Templates

Templates are professionally designed section layouts provided by inploi. When you add a new section to a page, you can browse the template library and insert one as a starting point — then customise it to match your brand.

Unlike [prefabs](/studio/cms/prefabs), inserting a template creates a one-off copy in your page. There is no ongoing link to the template, so changes to the original template in the library do not affect pages where you have already inserted it.

## Browsing templates

When you add a new section to a page and choose **Template**, a gallery ("Create a section from template") opens with all available templates organised by category.

| Category     | What it includes                                                     |
| ------------ | -------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Hero** | Large header sections with image, heading, and call-to-action button |
| **Navbar** | Site navigation bar layouts |
| **Footer** | Site footer layouts with links and social icons |
| **Creative** | Feature sections, testimonials, image galleries |
| **Banner** | Announcement strips and promotional banners |
| **Misc**     | Other utility layouts                                                |

You can filter by category or search by name.

Template names should be generic and brand-agnostic because templates are used as starting points across sites. For example, use "Two-column Hero" or "Job Listings Grid" rather than a customer-specific name. See [Naming conventions](/studio/cms/naming-conventions#prefabs-and-templates).

## Inserting a template

<Steps>
  ### Open the page editor

  Go to **CMS → Pages** and open the page you want to edit.

  ### Add a new section

  Click **Add section** where you want the template to appear.

  ### Choose Template

  Choose **Template** to open the template gallery.

  ### Preview and choose

  Click any template to preview it. When you've found one you want to use, click **Insert template**.

  ### Customise the section

  The template is now copied into your page. Update the text, images, colours, and layout to match your brand. The template is a starting point — it's completely editable.
</Steps>

## After inserting a template

Once a template is inserted into a page, it behaves like any other section. You can:

* Edit individual blocks within it
* Add or remove columns
* Change the section background
* Rearrange or delete blocks

If you find yourself inserting the same template repeatedly and then making the same customisations, consider saving the result as a [prefab](/studio/cms/prefabs) instead.

<Note>
  Templates are created and maintained by inploi. The **CMS → Templates** page, where the library is managed, is mainly for inploi staff and may not appear in your navigation. As a customer, you use templates when adding a section in the page editor. If you need a layout that isn't available, contact your inploi account manager.

## FAQs

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Will editing an inserted template affect other pages?">
    No. A template is copied into your page as a one-time, independent section. Editing it only changes that page — unlike a [prefab](/studio/cms/prefabs), which stays linked.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="The CMS → Templates page isn't in my navigation.">
    That's expected. The Templates library is managed by inploi and is mainly for inploi staff. As a customer you use templates when adding a section in the page editor.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="The layout I want isn't in the template list.">
    Contact your inploi account manager — they can advise on available layouts or build one for you.
